The growth and targeting of costumers in a company or any industry solely depends on the volume of sales and the profit that is made. This in turns put one department to great task in other to achieve this. The sales department.

The sales team rests on the shoulder of the sales manager. How he drives the sales force. How he incorporate feedback from costumers and make the best out of it.

Who is a sale manager?

A sales manager is someone who is responsible for leading and guiding a team of sales people in an organization. He is responsible for organising the companies sales force and promoting teamwork.

The sales manager set sales goals & quotas, build a sales plan, analyze data, assign sales training and sales territories, mentor the members of his/her sales team and are involved in the hiring and firing process.

Let’s quickly look at the role the sales manager plays;

Sales managers typically do the following:

☆ Oversee regional and local sales managers and their staffs.

☆ Resolve customer complaints regarding sales and service.

☆ Prepare budgets and approve budget expenditures

☆ Monitor customer preferences to determine the focus of sales efforts.

☆ Analyze sales statistics.

☆ Project sales and determine the profitability of products and services.

☆ Plan and coordinate training programs for sales staff.

Sales managers work closely with managers from other departments. For example, the marketing department identifies new customers that the sales department can target.

The relationship between these two departments is critical to helping an organization expand its client base.

Because sales managers monitor customers’ preferences and stores’ and organizations’ inventory needs, they work closely with research and design departments and warehousing departments.

As a sales managers, you can work in a variety of environments depending on the size of the organization you work for and the product(s) you sell. You have a lot of responsibility, and the position can be stressful.

Many sales managers travel to national, regional, and local offices and to dealers’ and distributors’ offices.

One strategic role of a sales manager is that he is responsible for providing key input to the development of a long term sales plan and marketing plan of the company such as sales force management, sales forecasting, developing sales strategies, implementing and controlling sales budget.

He also acts as a team leader who leads the sales force. He guide, motivate and directs the effort of the sales team.

There is one unique quality every sales manager must develop, the ability to build trust around your costumers. This is one major key to retaining a costumer for a long term as long as the companies product or service satisfies that prospect.
